Dennis Rizzo, author of Parallel Communities: The Underground Railroad in South Jersey, will speak at the Feb. 12 meeting of the Lawnside Historical Society at 7 p.m. in the library at Lawnside Public School, 426 E. Charleston Ave.
Mr. Rizzo's just published book explores how freedom seekers escaping on the Underground Railroad found sanctuary and salvation in Lawnside, Gouldtown, Timbuctoo and similar communities. After his talk, he will answer questions and sign copies of his book. Sales will benefit the society. Click here to see the program flier.
The author has published six previous books including Mount Holly: Hometown Revisited. He is affiliated with the Mount Holly Historical Society and Main Street Mount Holly and has worked for the State of New Jersey as a manager and planner.

The Lawnside Historical Society is a nonprofit, tax-exempt membership organization, which owns and maintains the Peter Mott House Underground Railroad Museum in Lawnside.
The Society is supported by a grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission and is a designated organization of the New Jersey Cultural Trust.
